An inmate being held at the Troup County Jail died after a medical incident in the jail overnight Thursday.
Aaron M. Martinette, 33, of Fayetteville, passed away Friday morning, according to sheriff’s deputies.
On Sept. 7, around 9:17 p.m. a detention officer discovered Martinette unresponsive in his cell.
Additional officers and medical staff along with the Troup County Fire Department and AMR were immediately notified. Lifesaving measures were initiated and continued while the subject was transported to the Emergency Room at the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center.
Martinette was later pronounced deceased at the hospital at approximately 4:30 a.m.
According to a TCSO press release, Martinette was being held on disorderly conduct charges.
Troup County Public Information Officer Sgt. Stewart Smith said no foul play is suspected and the victim is believed to have passed away from natural causes.
Due to the victim passing away while in custody, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on the scene and is conducting an independent investigation as is standard procedure.
