Callaway coach Nick Drescher felt his team made positive strides on Tuesday, even if the team was unable to put a win on the board.
With their 6-1 loss to Rockmart, the Lady Cavaliers (3-4 overall) have lost three straight games, and they’ve fallen to 1-2 in Region 4-AAA.
Callaway came into Tuesday’s game after falling to Central-Carroll and Northside-Columbus in back-to-back games.
Tuesday’s game was close for awhile, but Rockmart scored three runs in the fourth inning to seize control, and it held on for the win.
Still, Drescher felt the effort was an improvement on the two previous games.
“We played better than what we played the last couple of games, even though the score doesn’t indicate that,” Callaway coach Nick Drescher said.
Rockmart started the game with a bang, with its leadoff hitter delivering a solo home run to make it 1-0.
Callaway responded with a single run in the bottom of the first.
Brittany Mitchell singled, stole second, and scored on a Keshonna Terrell base hit.
Neither team scored in the second or third inning, but Rockmart broke through in the fourth to take the lead for good.
Callaway will try to get back on the winning track when it visits Hardaway today.
Callaway finishes its week on Thursday with a trip to Atlanta to take on region foe Douglass.
“We’ve got a lot of games this week,” Drescher said. “We’re just trying to get the little things right.”
