With running back Benny Gray delivering a three-touchdown performance, the LaGrange Grangers overwhelmed Shaw 30-7 on Friday night.
The Grangers (1-3) came into the game without a win, but they’re perfect where it counts after winning their Region 5-AAAA opener at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.
The Grangers got off to a quick start, with Gray scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run to cap a six-play, 65-yard scoring drive.
The two-point conversion gave LaGrange an 8-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.
Later in the quarter, the Grangers went 64 yards in nine plays, with Mon Denson finishing things off with a 28-yard touchdown run, and another two-point conversion made it a 16-0 game with 1:47 showing on the clock.
After Shaw answered with a touchdown, LaGrange came right back with another touchdown, with Gray again doing the honors with a 7-yard scoring run, and Taylor Stanford’s extra point put Shaw in a 23-7 hole, which was the score at the half.
In the third quarter, Emmanuel Mann set the Grangers up in Shaw territory with an interception, and Gray capped the short 26-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, and Stanford’s extra point pushed the lead to 30-7, capping the scoring.
LaGrange will try to make it 2-0 in the region when it hosts Columbus on Friday.
