A Shakespeare enthusiast and published author will be speaking at the LaGrange Memorial Library on Monday.

Deron Hicks has released his second Shakespeare novel this month and is expecting to continue the mystery novel.

Though a Shakespeare enthusiast now, he didn’t have that same interest growing up.

“Growing up, Shakespeare was always presented as dry,” said Hicks. “Learning about who he was as a person is exciting. And learning about what that period and world was like.

Author Bill Bryson wrote a book about Shakespeare that had sparked his interest. He began researching Shakespeare, and decided to write his own book about Shakespeare. The book, he decided, would be geared toward younger children, inspired by his then 12-year-old daughter.

The book, “Secrets of Shakespeare’s Grave: The Shakespeare Mysteries, Book I,” was published in 2012. His second book, “The Tower of the Five Orders: The Shakespeare Mysteries, Book 2,” was released last week.

The main character in the series is from Manchester, where Hicks and his family now live. The mystery series, he said is a soft intro to Shakespeare and lifestyles during his time.

“In the books, people get introduced to people during that time they may not have known existed,” said Hicks. “It takes them places as a reader to see how great the world can be.”

Hicks will speak at the LaGrange Memorial Library at 7 p.m. Monday.
