The Sons of Lafayette will be holding its fall concert Thursday, with the internationally known Morehouse College Glee Club as the guest performers.

Back by popular demand, Morehouse’s Glee Club has returned to LaGrange after its first performance in 2011, under the direction of David Morrow.

“Two years ago this month we had the Morehouse Glee Club here and it was one of the largest attended concerts we’ve ever had,” said Sons of Lafayette President Harold Tarpley. “We almost filled the Callaway Auditorium. We’re having them back because it was so well attended and so well received.”

The Glee Club has performed all over the world including West Africa, Russia, Poland, Bermuda, the Bahamas, South Africa, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Super Bowl XXVIII. The group participated with Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan, and Trisha Yearwood in the opening and closing Ceremonies of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.

Tarpley said the Sons of Lafayette, performing with the predominantly African American Glee Club bridges diversity amongst the groups.

“Two years ago when we first did this, we were really looking for an opportunity to present a concert or event that would be multiracial and multifunctional, bring people together and it did that to a degree,” he said. “And we’re trying to support that again this year.”

R. Wayne Woodson has been the directing Sons of Lafayette since January 2013, after the retirement of 12-year director Loren Pinkerman. the group had been invited to the semi annual International Male Choir Festival in Cornwall, England, in 2011, where the group performed seven concerts during the eight-day trip. They have performed at various locations throughout Georgia, in Greenville, S.C. and Auburn, Ala.

The Sons of Lafayette and Morehouse College Glee Club concert will be held at Callaway Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $12 and can be bought at Plum Southern or online at www.sonsoflafayette.org.
