The LaGrange Academy basketball teams swept a pair of games from Lafayette Christian on Friday.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors prevailed 41-28, while the Warriors won 58-45.

In the boys’ game, Chase Wardlaw had a big game for the Warriors with 28 points, and Daniel Wardlaw added 23 points.

LaGrange Academy coach Britt Gaylor said it was a “very tight game throughout and Lafayette played really well. Even though we shot poorly from the field our team did a great job of playing good team defense throughout the game and executing down the stretch.”

Gaylor added that “Daniel made huge plays down the stretch that iced the game for us.”

In the girls’ game, Caitlynn Croft led the Lady Warriors with 15 points, and she also had four rebounds and two steals.

Jana Maddox added eight points, and Marybeth Cottle and Brandi Smalls had seven points apiece.

LaGrange Academy was up 7-0 in the first three minutes, but Lafayette Christian rallied to trail 12-10 after the first quarter.

It remained close in the second quarter, and LaGrange Academy led 23-20 at the break.

The Lady Warriors broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Cougars 16-3 to take a 39-23 lead, and they maintained a comfortable cushion the rest of the way.

“We need to continue to increase our defensive intensity to have more quarters like our third and fourth,” LaGrange Academy coach Mike Petite said. “We played well overall and hopefully will continue to improve our offense as we get better as a team overall.”
