A man was taken to West Georgia Medical Center after allegedly being jumped by approximately 10-12 subjects Sunday night.

According to a police report, at 10 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the 100 block Old Airport Road in reference to a subject needing medical attention.

Upon arrival, officers met with Deyauna Thorton, who stated that her son Nigel Sykes, 17, of LaGrange was beat up by several boys outside the Carmike Cinema located in the 200 block of Main Street.

The report said that officers made contact with Sykes, who had just walked back to a residence at Mallard Lake Apartments in the 100 block of Old Airport Road, who stated that he and a friend were on the way to Carmike Cinema to pick up a friend when he was attacked at the intersection of Bull Street and Broome Street.

According to the report, Sykes said that he got out of the vehicle to retrive a jacket from the trunk when a group of 10-12 males ran toward him and began striking him with closed fists.

During the altercation, one of the unidentified suspects struck Sykes in the head with a black metal pipe that was approximately one foot, six inches long and a half inch in diameter, causing a laceration to his head.

The report says that it is unclear if this issue between the two parties was gang related or not.
