The showdown will have to wait.
The boys’ basketball teams from Callaway and Douglass were supposed to face off tonight in a rematch of last year’s Region 4-AAA championship game.
That game has been postponed, though, along with all of today’s other games featuring Callaway, LaGrange and Troup.
Troup County’s schools won’t be in session today because of the winter weather, and all athletic events have been cancelled as well.
That includes the game between Callaway and Douglass, which was set to be played at Callaway.
Callaway and Douglass are both off to quick 2-0 starts in the region, and they’re expected to duke it out all season for the top spot.
“They’re playing well,” Callaway coach Terry Hayes said. “They’re undefeated in the region as we are.”
The Callaway Lady Cavaliers were hoping to bounce back from Saturday’s loss to Chapel Hill, but they’ll have to wait until Friday to play again.
The Lady Cavaliers are 1-1 in the region with a win over Rockmart and the loss to Chapel Hill.
Callaway will visit Jackson on Friday before hosting Haralson County on Saturday.
The Troup teams were also supposed to be at home today against Sandy Creek in the continuation of their Region 5-AAAA schedules.
Troup’s boys’ and girls’ teams opened their region schedules with losses to Alexander on Dec. 17.
Troup will return to the court on Saturday for a home doubleheader against Columbus.
LaGrange’s teams were scheduled to play at Columbus High today in a Region 5-AAAA doubleheader.
The Grangers opened their region schedule with a loss to Shaw on Friday, while the Lady Grangers won in overtime.
LaGrange will be at Alexander on Friday before hosting Fayette County on Saturday.
