The Callaway football team is bringing in a heavy hitter for its banquet.

The team’s banquet will be held in April, and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn will be the featured speaker.

The banquet will be held on April 13 at 2 p.m. in the Callaway High cafeteria.

Tickets will be $25 per person, and that includes a meal.

Tickets will be sold at the Callaway High athletic office, and for information, call (706) 845-2074.

The finest Callaway football team in school history will be honored during the banquet.

The Cavaliers set a school record for wins with 12, and they made it to the state semifinals for the first time in school history.

In the final four, Callaway led a powerful Buford team 14-7 at the half before losing 24-14.

That was the closest any team came to Buford, which beat Washington County 35-19 in the championship game.

Malzahn, meanwhile, made a huge impact in his first season as Auburn’s head coach.

Malzahn replaced the fired Gene Chizik, and he led the Tigers to an SEC championship and a spot in the national-championship game.

The highlight of the season for Auburn was a dramatic win over Alabama that was decided when Chris Davis returned a missed field-goal attempt 109 yards for a touchdown as time expired.

Auburn went on to beat Missouri in the SEC title game before losing a 34-31 thriller to Florida State in the BCS championship game.
