Panthers put up big numbers

Former Callaway Cavalier Chris Laye stayed red-hot to lead the LaGrange College baseball team to a 16-1 victory over visiting Centre (Ky.) on Tuesday.


Laye had two hits and three RBIs, and he has four hits and seven RBIs in the past two games, including a two-run home run in Sunday’s win over Maryville.


After scoring a season-high 11 runs in Sunday’s game, the Panthers were five runs better on Tuesday.


Alex Murfin had a hit and three RBIs, Blake Schuck had two hits with two RBIs, and Alec Redden had two RBIs.


Keith Sims walked three times and scored three runs.


Tyler Brooks (1-1) pitched six innings to get the win, and he worked around six hits and allowed just an unearned run.


Cole Anderson threw two perfect innings, and Bruno Arunhammer worked a scoreless ninth to finish it.


The Panthers (8-14) will return to USA South play for a three-game home series against Covenant this weekend.


The series begins on Friday at 7 p.m., and they’ll play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
