The Troup Tigers are on the board in region play.
After dropping their Region 5-AAAA opener to Alexander on Friday, the Tigers evened their region record at 1-1 with a 14-2 victory at Sandy Creek on Tuesday.
The Tigers (6-5) scored 10 runs in the first inning, and they ended up winning the game in five innings.
“We were very fortunate to get an early lead, and kind of put them down a little bit, take the fire out of them,” Troup coach Craig Garner said.
Winston Turner got the start for Troup and pitched two innings, and C.J. Tatum also pitched two innings.
Brannon Weathers finished things off on the mound in the seventh inning.
Carson Aldridge had a pair of hits for Troup, and freshman Ken Truitt showed what he’s capable of when he nearly hit one out of the park.
Truitt hit a ball that hit just short of the outfield fence for a double.
“He’s got a lot of bat speed, got a little pop,” Garner said.
Troup will try to get above .500 in the region when it hosts Carrollton on Thursday.
Troup finishes the week with a road game against the Columbus Blue Devils on Friday.
