Five local students awarded Dernell Stenson scholarship

Five high school seniors have received scholarships from a local foundation.

The Dernell Renauld Stenson Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is committed to the development of youth by sponsoring athletic and fitness-oriented activities, as well as providing annual scholarships for educational pursuits. The scholarship recipients for the 2013-2014 academic school term are Divlin Kaur of Callaway High School, DeMarcus Turnbough of LaGrange High School, Brandon Butts of Troup High School, Tarry Meadows of LaGrange High School and Michael Ward of Troup High School.

Scholarship applications for the upcoming 2014-2015 school term will be available to graduating seniors through their school’s counselor’s office on April 15, 2014.

The Dernell Renauld Stenson Foundation began in November 2011 in memory of Dernell Stenson, a LaGrange native who went on to play in Major League Baseball.
