Alcohol is a suspected factor in the death of a woman struck by a vehicle north of Hogansville on Sunday.

A preliminary state patrol report indicates that the victim, identified as Rebecca Lynn Gatz, 51, of Hogansville, at one point appeared to be lying on U.S. 29 prior to the incident, according to witnesses. She was suspected to be under the influence, and a toxicology report is pending.

The report said that the driver, Robert Keith Carter, 49, of Grantville, was northbound on U.S. 29 in a 1998 GMC Sierra that struck Gatz in the northbound lane. She was thrown 33 feet from the impact and pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was reported at 9:13 p.m. Sunday.

No charges were pending against Carter. Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
