Man sentenced to 16 years for drug, assault charges

Brandon Huzzie, 33, of LaGrange was sentenced on Tuesday to 16 years in prison served without parole under the state’s recidivism stature.

Huzzie pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, three counts of selling cocaine, one count of selling marijuana, possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of prohibited items by an inmate and possession of illegal drugs within 1,000 feet of a housing project or park.

In November 2012, Huzzie and others attacked another inmate with a broomstick handles which were found in Huzzie’s cell, and beat him causing major facial and head injuries. The cocaine and marijuana charges come from a case in the summer of 2012. In January of 2011, Huzzie was found to be in possession of marijuana while in jail.

Huzzie received sentencing under the recidivism statute for three prior felony charges according to the prosecution.
