A man was hit by a car and life flighted to Columbus Medical Center Sunday night at Walmart in the 800 block of New Franklin Road after an altercation led to a hit-and-run.
At around 11:54 p.m., police were dispatched to Walmart where they found Joseph Webb, 45, of LaGrange laying on the ground surrounded by people.
It was reported Webb was run over by silver Toyota Tacoma that left the scene after the accident. After interviewing several witness, one claimed to know the driver as Nickolas Nixon, 19, of LaGrange. The witness called Nixon on the phone and police asked him to come back to the scene.
According to reports, Nixon came back and stated there has been prior altercations in which police were called between he and Joseph’s son, Hunter Webb, 17, of LaGrange.
Nixon told police he allegedly saw Hunter at Walmart and feared there would be another altercation, but then Hunter left.
A short time later Hunter allegedly came back bringing a White Chevrolet truck with him. Nixon stated both vehicles drove to his location at which time he jumped in his car and tried to leave, but two males exited their vehicles and began running at his truck, reaching in his window, and trying to pull him out.
According the report, during the altercation, Nixon drove off at which time he felt a “bump,” but kept going.
According to police, it is unclear if Joseph was one of the men chasing Nixon, although it was several members of the Webb family.
Nixon was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and transported to the Troup County Jail.
Joseph sustained injuries to his legs, but the severity of his injuries and his condition is unknown at this time.
An investigation is still ongoing.
