A local church is hoping to attract thousands of youth to an event at Callaway Stadium featuring Christian band Big Daddy Weave.

The event, set for Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m., is hosted by Teaver Road Baptist Church.

“The goal of the event is to bring the youth in the community together for a back-to-school bash,” said Sharon Geter, who is organizing the event.

Wife to Teaver Road Baptist Church pastor Danny Geter, she said the event is the culmination of an idea that sparked when her husband first came to the church.

“My husband became the pastor of Teaver Road Baptist in November of 2012. The first Sunday we were there, we pulled up in the parking lot a little early and he looked out over the ball field in the back and said he could just see thousands of youth worshipping God out there,” she said. “I then made it my goal to see this happen.”

A “big contemporary Christian music fan,” Geter knew that a concert would be a big draw for youth. She contacted the agent of band Big Daddy Weave, an award-winning group, and after several weeks of discussion were able to settle on a date for the group to play in LaGrange.

However, Geter soon realized the original plan for the group to play at the church would require more parking than they had available. She spoke with Troup County Parks and Recreation about using Callaway Stadium for the August concert.

“The stadium was booked every weekend except the one we needed,” Geter said.

Having secured the location, Trust 2014 Youth Explosion was set. Big Daddy Weave will headline the event and Nashville artist Matt Price is special guest. Coach David Rocker from Point University also will speak at the event.

The church so far has sold several hundred tickets to the event, but hopes to fill all 4,000 spots available for the concert.
