Twelve teams will be fighting it out for one invitation to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series when the 11-12-year-old state tournament gets under way on Saturday at the Harris Baseball Complex.

The winner of the tournament earns an invitation to the World Series that will be held in Lexington, S.C. in August.

Among the competitors will be two teams from Troup County.

All 12 teams will play on Saturday, and the tournament is scheduled to go through Aug. 17.

On Saturday, the action gets under way with three games at 11 a.m., and there will be three more games at 1 p.m.

Troup County, which finished second in the district tournament in June, will play Albany American 2 at 11 a.m.

Troup National, which didn’t play in the district tournament and has an automatic spot in the state tournament as the host team, will play Augusta West at 1 p.m.

All 12 teams will be in action again on Sunday, with games scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The 1 p.m. games will feature teams with one loss, while the 3 p.m. games will pit Saturday’s winners against each other.

After Sunday, the remainder of the games will be played at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., leading up to the championship game on Aug. 17 at 6 p.m.

The Troup County team secured its state invitation by finishing second to Manchester in the district tournament.

Troup County lost twice to Manchester, and beat Thomaston in the district tournament.

“We wanted to win obviously, but we learned what our strengths and weaknesses are,” Troup County coach Andrew Caraway said. “Now we’ve got the state tournament to get ready for.”

Troup County’s other all-star teams will all be on the road for their state tournaments.

Troup County National and Hogansville are both heading to Wrens for the 9-10-year-old state tournament that gets started on Saturday.

Troup National won the district tournament, and Hogansville finished second.

The Troup County 13-14-year-old all-star team, meanwhile, will be in Columbus for the Dixie Boys Baseball state tournament that gets under way on Saturday.
