Possession of Marijuana / Following Too Closely

Troup County Sheriff’s deputies made a drug bust bust following a routine traffic stop.

According to the Sheriffs Office, a deputy stopped a silver 2006 Cadillac DTS Saturday night on Interstate 85, near mile marker 20. The deputy said he noticed the vehicle was following another car too closely and was failing to maintain its lane of traffic.

After pulling the car over, the deputy said he noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy brought out his K9 who gave a positive indication of the odor of narcotics coming from the car. According to the sheriffs office, the deputy searched the car and found four pounds of marijuana coming from the trunk.

The driver, Toranto Frye and his passenger, Charisse Creighton were arrested. They were charged with possession of marijuana. Frye was also charged with following too closely.

Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer

Another routine traffic stop gone bad.

The Troup County Sheriffs Office arrested 65-year-old Arthur Lee Jones on Saturday on Hamilton Road near the Meadoway Gardens Cemetery. Deputies say Jones was involved in a high speed pursuit with deputies and almost hit a deputy with his car.

Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, speeding, driving while license revoked or suspended, and reckless driving.
