They took a test run on Wednesday.

With their season opener coming up on Friday, the LaGrange Lady Grangers faced Newnan in a preseason game on Wednesday, and it could have gone better.

Newnan dominated the game from the get-go en route to a 12-0 victory.

“We did some good things today, but we played scared,” LaGrange coach Jan Jones said. “We have to be better than that.”

The Lady Grangers are coming off a 20-10 season, but they’re having to replace some key players from that team, including all-state pitcher Emily Anderson.

On Wednesday, Cassidy Creed and McLain Skinner both got some time on the mound heading into this weekend’s games.

LaGrange will be one of 10 teams competing in the Callaway Classic that will be held Friday and Saturday at Shuford Fields.

LaGrange will play two games on Friday, and three more games on Saturday.

Callaway, which is 1-1 after beating Northside and losing to Hardaway, will host the tournament and will also play five games.

Troup, which has yet to play a regular-season game, will also open its season in the Callaway Classic.
