Saturday

Mike Cunningham, owner of Country Garden Farms, hosts a class at 10 a.m. at Hills and Dales Estate where he shares his approach to eating locally grown, organic food. Participants will get sources for local and regionally grown food and each participant will leave with a bag of fresh greens and a root crop. Cost is $30 per person. Workshop space is limited and pre-registration is required. Garden admission is included in registration. Annual pass holders receive a 20 percent discount. The LaGrange Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority hosts 2013 National Impact Day to fight obesity from noon to 2 p.m. with activities and snacks at the William Griggs Recreation Center, 716 Glenn Robertson Drive. Marcus Pollard, a former NFL player and former cast member on “The Amazing Race” TV show will be special guest.

Boy Scout Troop # 3 hosts its 34th annual Barbecueue prepared by Nig Thompson and Ellis Cadenhead from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on U.S. 27 South past Rosemont Elementary School. Cost is $8 per plate; southern-style barbecue with all fixings. Pint- and quart-sized sales also available. Barbecue may be picked up at the scout house or the Rosemont Elementary parking lot.

Lafayette Society for Performing Arts presents the Lafayette Ballet Company in “The Little Mermaid” March 15 and 16 at 7 p.m., and March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Troup High School Fine Arts Auditorium. The Chattahoochee Humane Society hosts the “Strut 4 Strays” dog walk, art competition and dog show at the Sportsplex in Valley, Ala. Registration for all events begins at 8 a.m. The walk is $25 to enter and begins at 9 a.m. Participants get a T-shirt, doggie bag and pet photo. Following the walk is an awards ceremony for the student art, T-shirt art and pet photo contests. Art will be on display starting at 9 a.m. The dog show begins at 10 a.m. and is $5 per pet per category entered. There will be a frisbee dog demonstration, children’s activity area and live entertainment by Point University’ folk band with skits.

The DHA Community Center in Pine Mountain hosts Remembering Elvis Presley at 7 p.m. featuring Rick Lipp, a longtime member of Elvis Presley’s entertainment team. Lipp will play and sing Presley’s most popular songs, a video of Presley’s most memorable concert will be shown and some of Presley’s memorabilia will be on display.
