With Callaway’s Nick O’Berry settled into the batter’s box, a flash of lightning was visible in the distance, and the decision was made to bring the players off the field during Monday’s game between the homestanding Cavaliers and B.E.S.T Academy.

From there, the weather conditions only worsened, and the game never resumed.

The game ended with the Cavaliers leading 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, and the game will be made up at a later date.

The teams will play again today at 5:30 p.m. at Callaway.

The Cavaliers remain 6-3 overall, and 1-0 in Region 4-AAA with a pair of key region games coming up.

On Wednesday, Callaway will be on the road against Chapel Hill in a showdown between two of the top teams in the region.

Chapel Hill is 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the region, and it already boasts a 12-6 victory over fellow title contender Central-Carroll.

On Friday, Callaway will be at home against Rockmart (3-5), which is expected to compete for a playoff spot.

In Monday’s game, Kevin Craft got the start for Callaway, and he struck out two in his one scoreless inning of work.

He did give up a base hit, but that runner was picked off.

In the bottom of the first, Austin Garrett was hit by a pitch leading off, and Terry Godwin followed with a walk.

With Garrett on third, Cody Mimbs lifted a flyball to left field that was deep enough to drive in the game’s first run.

After the next batter grounded out, O’Berry came up hopeful of extending the lead, but he never got that chance.
