Dodie Thompson from the West Point Police Department was presented the Communications Person of the Year Award on Tuesday.

“During her three years on the job, Mrs. Thompson has routinely gone above and beyond the call of duty. Her greatest challenge came when she received a 911 call from her own home,” said Eric Blackman, Chamber board chairman. “Her husband was experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency. With the same calm composure exhibited on every call, she was able to respond in a professional manner to dispatch the medical assistance her husband needed.

“As further proof of the commitment to her work, she remained on duty until a replacement could arrive, ensuring the citizens of West Point would be served. Today, her husband is alive and well.”

The Communications Person of the Year Award is presented to the public safety communications official who has performed his or her job with exceptional skill, expertise, innovation and results.
