LaGRANGE — Troup High School students will perform a Disney classic in May and host a drama camp later this month for kindergarten through eighth grade students to participate in the show.
The Troup County Theatre Department will perform the live, full-length staged version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” on May 20 and 21. The show will open both nights at 7 p.m. with a Saturday matinee performance May 20 at 2 p.m.
“Complete with all the beloved characters from Ariel to her Prince Eric, Sebastian, Scuttle, Flounder and the evil Ursula and her two sidekicks, Flotsam and Jetsam, audiences are sure to delight in the old familiar tunes and fall in love with some new songs as well,” said Noel Jordan, theater teacher and director at Troup High School. “It’s a huge spectacle complete with puppets — not the least of which is a 10-foot-tall Ursula puppet — a 16-foot ship, fun and lively choreography, and a cast you won’t soon forget.”
To order tickets, contact Jordan at [email protected] or text 706-977-9266 with your name, preferred performance date and time and number of desired seats. Adult tickets are $8; students and children are $5; “lap sitters,” young children who will not need their own seat, are $3.
Seating is reserved, so Jordan encouraged people to order seats early.
For younger children who want to participate and learn some acting skills, parents can enroll them in the “Under the Sea” drama camp to be held April 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25 for the first child in the family and $20 for each additional child enrolled.
The fee includes a T-shirt and a free ticket to watch and perform with the cast of “The Little Mermaid” in the Saturday matinee performance on May 21.
“Children enrolled will get to see firsthand how the theater operates, get an up close look at sets, props and puppets, and be able to work with the cast on a song and dance number they will perform live onstage with the cast during the matinee performance,” Jordan said.
To enroll a child, contact Jordan at [email protected] or pick up a registration form in the THS front office. People can also register by picking up a form from their child’s Troup County elementary or middle school. One form can register all children from a family.
