LaGRANGE — A severe thunderstorm late last week caused a mess for some people who live in the 200 block of Banks Street.

LaGrange police said they were called out to the area just before 12:30 a.m. April 7 after a massive tree toppled over onto a house at 213 Banks St.

The tree flattened most of the home. Officers said neighbors told them the house had been vacant for some time.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The tree also hit some power lines and brought down live wires into the roadway.

The LaGrange Fire Department blocked off the street so the city utility company could turn off the electricity and remove the wires from the road.

Officers said large limbs also landed on a house next door and two cars on either side of the vacant home.

One vehicle, a green Chevy S10 pick up was damaged when a limb smashed through the windshield and dented the bed of the truck.

According to Terry McCann, owner of M & T Tree Service, the massive oak tree was uprooted during the storm.

McCann said he would have to cut through the limbs and large stump before being able to either grind up the pieces or cart them away.
