GREENVILLE — Meriwether sheriff’s officials captured a second fugitive inmate from the Meriwether County Jail inside a Greenville apartment about 5 p.m. Sunday.
Eugene Lamar Mitchell, 41, was allegedly discovered hiding inside apartment at 2018 Freeman St.
“We had received information that Mitchell may possibly be occupying an older model, white in color, Dodge Caravan,” said Sheriff Chuck Smith. “… A covert surveillance operation of this area revealed that the vehicle matching the description that Mitchell had been occupying (and) confirmed that Mitchell was at this apartment. We made entry into this apartment and Mitchell was found hiding in a back bedroom of this residence. Mitchell was taken into custody without further incident.”
Mitchell was taken to the Meriwether County Jail and charged with escape and interference with government property. More charges are pending, sheriff’s officials said.
Mitchell will be housed at another jail facility and was being held without bond Sunday evening.
Mitchell escaped from the Meriwether County Jail with fellow inmate Travion Terrell Hall, 29, about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Hall was found Wednesday in a hotel room at the Garden Inn and Suites off Bass Cross Road in Hogansville. He was arrested, charged with escape and interference with government property and also moved to a different jail facility, officials stated.
The sheriff’s office worked with the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Georgia Department of Community Supervision and the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit to capture Mitchell on Sunday, Smith said.
