LaGRANGE — Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of a blaze that destroyed a home in the 700 block of Campbell Street just before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Officials with the LaGrange Fire Department said flames and heavy smoke were pouring from the front of the house when firefighters arrived. Neighbors told firefighters the dwelling had been vacant for some time.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze from the outside. The heat and flames caused part of a porch and part of the roof to collapse making it difficult for them to enter the home, according to a news release sent by LFD.
A short time later, firefighters were able to gain control of the fire. A search and rescue team made entry into house to look for possible victims, but did not find anyone.
Firefighters stated the blaze caused extensive damage to the front portion of the home, while heat, smoke and water damaged the rest of the house.
The cost of repairs was estimated at $35,000, stated officials.
