LaGRANGE — The Troup High School Choral Department will present “We’re Going to Disney World!” for its spring show this week.

“The program is filled with Disney favorites for young and old,” said THS choral director Kathy Kirby. “We will be performing songs from older movies like ‘Pete’s Dragon’ and more recent films such as ‘The Princess and the Frog.’”

In March, the chorus and band took a trip to Disney World where the band marched in a parade throughout Magic Kingdom and the chorus attended a workshop on voice-overs and working in a recording studio.

“We were able to bring back new techniques from the workshop that we could apply to our performance,” Kirby said. “It was really an incredible experience.”

This year’s spring show is a special one for Kirby, because not only is she going to say goodbye to 25 seniors, she will also be directing her daughter for the last time after teaching her music for nine years. Katie Kirby will graduate this year and plans to major in dance at Valdosta State. Her mom was her music teacher from Pre-K through fifth grade at Long Cane Elementary School and then her chorus teacher when she moved to the high school three years ago.

“Not many parents can say that they have been able to teach their child for nine years,” Kirby said. “At graduation it will be a special honor to turn my daughter’s tassel.”

The THS chorus’ Disney show will be held Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Troup High Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
