LaGRANGE — The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, and events are set in LaGrange and Hogansville to observe the day.

The Biblical History Center, 130 Gordon Commercial Drive in LaGrange, will host a service open to the public in order to observe National Day of Prayer at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

“It’s a perfect opportunity for people of all religious faiths. It’s a perfect opportunity for us to all come together and lift up prayer and praise to our Lord,” said Linda McGill, the chairman of the event. “It’s like a wave of prayer going across America.”

The event will have specific prayers on five different topics led by Judge Jeanette Little, Debra Dunn, David Bell, David Traylor and Benita Epps. Ed Batchelor will serve as emcee, and Kenyetta Cotton will lead the music. Robert Wayne Reafon, a U.S. Marine Corps, will be leading the pledge.

“We want people to come together,” said McGill.

This is the 15th year for the event.

In Hogansville, the public is invited to Calvin Hipp Park to celebrate. The event is hosted by area churches, and different area pastors will lead. The service starts at noon.

The day is an annual event held on the first Thursday of May, and it was created in 1952, according to the National Day of Prayer website. This year’s theme is “Wake Up America,” with the Bible verse Isaiah 58:1.
