A state inmate remains at large today after escaping from work release program in Pine Mountain last month.

Donald Castleberry, 47, a convicted child molester, was working at a poultry processing plant in Pine Mountain when he apparently walked away from his work detail May 23, according to Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley.

Castleberry is described as a white male with blue eyes and brown hair, standing 5-feet, 11-inches tall and weighing 219 pounds.

He was an inmate at a Georgia Department of Corrections transitional facility in LaGrange and was set to be released in November after serving a 10-year prison sentence.

Three days passed by the time officials noticed Castleberry was missing, according to Jolley. A warrant was then taken out and law enforcement officials started looking for the inmate.

“We doubt seriously that he is still here,” Jolley said. “We looked for him for three or four days … he has no family in the area and no reason to stick around.”

Jolley said officials with the transitional center called him and asked if deputies would help search for Castleberry.

Repeated phone calls and emails from the Daily News to the Georgia Department of Corrections were not returned by press time.

Jolley said deputies, along with law enforcement officers with the local marshal’s office, searched for Castleberry in wooded areas as well as a few homes in Harris County, but came up empty.

According to the Georgia Department of Correction’s website, Castleberry was convicted of child molestation in Colquitt County in 2006 and was sentenced to ten years in prison.
