LAGRANGE — Becker’s Hospital Review, a prestigious health care publication, has named WellStar West Georgia Medical Center to its 2016 national list of “100 Great Community Hospitals.”

WGMC is one of three community hospitals in Georgia to receive the distinction.

The award comes on the heels of WGMC being named among the nation’s “100 Top Hospitals” in March by Truven Health Analytics, a provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care. Like the Truven honor, hospitals cannot pay for inclusion on the Becker’s Hospital Review list.

“We are very grateful for this external validation of our ability to deliver safe, high-quality care to our patients and their families,” said Jerry Fulks, WGMC president. “Recognitions such as this are a testament to the quality and dedication of our nurses, physicians, other team members and volunteers.”

Becker’s has published a version of the list annually since 2011. This is the fifth year the list has included 100 hospitals. For the purposes of the list, Becker’s defines a “community hospital” as one with fewer than 550 beds without large teaching programs.

The Becker’s editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on rankings and awards from organizations including iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, Healthgrades, CareChex, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Leapfrog Group. Included organizations have earned recognition from one or more of these organizations.
