WEST POINT — A man who allegedly shot and killed his younger brother before fleeing turned himself in to investigators about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at the West Point Police Department.

Carderius Harper, 22, of West Point, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Troup County Jail, said investigators. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during certain felonies.

Harper is accused of shooting his brother Juantae Harper, 17, inside the family’s home at the Oak Terrace Apartments at 700 Ave. E about 10 a.m. Tuesday. After the shooting, Carderius Harper fled, according to police.

When police arrived, a friend and another person were trying to revive the teenager, said Capt. Kevin Carter. Officers quickly took over and continued CPR until emergency personnel arrived on scene, but Juantae Harper died from his wounds.

Investigators spent most of Tuesday interviewing family members and any witnesses to the shooting, said Carter. Officials finally reached Carderius Harper by phone late Tuesday night. After talking with him, Carter said Harper agreed to turn himself in to West Point police on Wednesday.

Investigators have not said what led up to the shooting.
