Woman claims to witness shooting

A woman stopped by a Troup County Sheriff’s deputy on Monday told him she witnessed a shooting on Cedar Street.

LaGrange police officers met the woman who stated she saw a small, blue car near the intersection of Whitesville and Cedar streets, a report read.

The woman claimed she heard several gunshots fired and witnessed a man run to the passenger side of the blue car and jump in as it sped away, according to the report.

LPD officers checked the area and found a couple of 9mm shell casings in the road, a report stated.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no victim was located.

DUI

One man is now facing several charges following a traffic stop Monday about 10:30 p.m. on North Greenwood Street.

A LaGrange Police officer said he spotted the man in a black Mercedes CLK run a stop sign at Mitchell Avenue and Banks Street, a report read.

When the officer pulled the man over he immediately smelled alcohol coming from his person, a report stated.

The driver claimed he just bought the car from a used car lot and refused to perform a field sobriety test, according to the report.

He was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

When LPD officers looked at the car, they noticed it had no drive out tag. The tag that was on the vehicle was reported stolen in Carroll County, a report stated. Officers said the center console on the inside of the vehicle was dismantled and the gear shift was broken.

Police also discovered a loaded pistol in the glove box with a bullet in the chamber, according to the report.

The driver was charged with DUI -less safe, multi drugs and alcohol, stop sign violation, failure to use seat belt, no proof of insurance, no state tag, driving while license suspended, obstruction of a police officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Entering Auto

An employee at the Milliken Valway Plant at 1300 Fourth Avenue discovered someone broke into her car sometime while she was on shift late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

The employee told LaGrange police the thief stole the face to a Sony stereo system from the vehicle and $1 in loose change, a report stated. She also said the passenger side window was partially rolled down and off track.

The value of the stereo was estimated at $800.
