Man wanted for allegedly assaulting girlfriend

Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department are searching for a man who reportedly assaulted his girlfriend with a gun just before 9 p.m. on Friday at a home in the 300 block of Render Street.

Leon Spence, 30, allegedly beat up the woman in front of her 6-year-old son. Spence also took the couple’s 6-month-old son without permission and fled to Alabama, investigators said.

LaGrange police officers quickly issued a BOLO (be on the look out) for the baby and Spence’s vehicle, a report stated.

The infant was safely returned to LPD investigators by a member of Spence’s family, according to a report.

Spence was not located.

Investigators secured arrested warrants for the suspect. Spence will be charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespass under the Family Violence Act, plus interference with custody and third degree cruelty to children, investigators said.

Woman attempts to hit man with car

One woman remains behind bars accused of trying to hit a man with her car in the 600 block of Snelson Street about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Yvonne Bumbrey, 42, also reportedly ran over a second man.

According to one of the victims, Bumbrey attempted to strike him with her car following an argument between the two.

The man told police he was able to move out of the way.

But Bumbrey did unintentionally run over the feet of another man also standing in the street, LPD investigators stated.

That victim sustained minor injuries, according to a police report.

Bumbrey was arrested by LaGrange Police officers and charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct, a report stated.

She remains in the Troup County Jail.
