LaGRANGE — A car ended up in a creek on Cleveland Drive just before noon Monday after the driver told police she took her eyes off the road for a brief moment.

The driver, a 65-year-old woman, was transported to West Georgia Medical Center after the incident. The woman was not severely injured, according to Officer Wesley Engle of the LaGrange Police Department.

“She was sitting up in the ambulance speaking to me before they took her to the hospital,” said Engle. “I think she will be okay.”

Her vehicle, a white BMW 525I, sustained damage to the front end after crashing into the creek bed. Emergency workers said the woman was fortunate that the water level in the creek was less than a foot deep.

“She told me that she took her eyes off the road and when she looked up, all she saw was grass,” said Engle. “That’s when she said her foot got stuck on the gas pedal, sending her into the creek.”
