LaGrange police on Wednesday arrested a suspect in the shooting of a LaGrange man outside a Hamilton Road gas station.

Jakoreyus Newsom, 18, of LaGrange is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection to the Monday afternoon shooting. He was being held at Troup County Jail without bond this morning.

In the Monday incident, one man was shot in the leg and a woman was injured by shattering glass inside a car when gunmen approached them and opened fire outside the BP gas station at 517 Hamilton Road about 5:40 p.m. A juvenile inside the vehicle was uninjured.

The suspects, described by police as two African-American men, then drove away, possibly down Colquitt Street, in a late-model, blue Buick sedan, police said.

The three victims drove away on Hamilton Road and eventually went to West Georgia Medical Center. When the trio arrived at the hospital, police were contacted and went to WGMC to investigate. Police were processing the vehicle for evidence Monday.

Police on Tuesday said a possible suspect had been identified, but they were unable to locate him at that time. LaGrange police have not publicly identified another suspect in the shooting.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603, tips may also be submitted anonymously through Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000 or by text message to 888-777.
