LaGRANGE — Troup County Commission met Tuesday at the government center on Ridley Avenue for its regularly scheduled meeting.

Commissioners voted to lift two hiring freezes and allow the supervisors to fill one position that has been vacant since Sept. 1 and one that will be vacated at the end of the month.

Don Howell, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, is slated to seek a replacement for Linda Prescott, site manager of the Hogansville Senior Center, who is retiring Sept. 29.

Charles Koone of the Troup County Shop was approved to fill one mechanic position from which a previous employee resigned at the beginning of the month.

Koone described the mechanic position as “necessary to maintain (the) current workload,” in his official request.

Both positions are already budgeted in the county’s finances and are not expected to impact expenses, according to the requests.

An additional measure to consider an intergovernmental agreement between the city of LaGrange and the county regarding a public safety radio communications upgrade was tabled because the city’s attorney was on vacation last week and has not been able to yet draft the agreement, according to Tod Tentler, county manager.

Following the special business agenda items, the commission entered executive session to discuss board appointments.
