A man showed up at West Georgia Medical Center with several cut wounds Tuesday, allegedly from a fight, but was not cooperating with detectives, according to the LaGrange Police Department.

Lt. Dale Strickland, head of LPD’s Criminal Investigation Section, said the man was taken to the hospital Tuesday night by a relative with a deep laceration to his forearm and smaller cuts to his chest. The investigator said it appeared the man’s injuries were made by a sharp object like a razor or box cutter.

According to Strickland, the victim told LaGrange officers and detectives conflicting stories of how he received those injuries. The man told officers he was moving pallets at a home in the 100 block of Bell Street and was cut by a nail, then he said he was cut by glass, stated Strickland.

Finally, the victim admitted he had gotten into a fight, but refused to tell detectives who the altercation was with, according to Strickland.

Detectives plan to re-interview the victim again at a later date. They were still investigating.

Man catches suspects

A driver caught two suspected thieves breaking into his truck just after 7 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Lafayette Christian School, 1904 Hamilton Road.

The victim told LaGrange officers he was walking out to his truck when saw someone behind it and realized the man was trying to break in to his vehicle. The driver said that man fled on foot.

According to the victim, he then saw another person inside his truck. He told police the man had entered through the rear sliding glass window of the truck and his feet were sticking out of the window. The driver said he pulled that suspect out and, after a short scuffle, he subdued the man and called police.

Officers arrested Kanon Demonte Alexander, 17, whose address was unavailable, in the case. The other suspect was still at large.

Detectives said they determined both suspects may have entered another vehicle at the school. No items were taken from either car.

Car passenger flees from officer

One car passenger found himself restrained in more ways than one after being caught without his seat belt by a LaGrange police officer.

The officer stopped a car near Brown and Smoot streets because he noticed the front seat passenger was not wearing his seat belt.

According to the report, the officer asked the passenger for his name and date of birth then returned to his patrol car to check the information. The officer quickly noticed the picture in his computer system did not match the man in the passenger seat.

As another officer arrived on scene the man in the passenger seat jumped out of the car and took off on foot down Smoot Street. The report stated an officer was able to take the man into custody, where he was handcuffed, placed in the patrol car and put in a lap restraint as he was taken to the Troup County Jail.

The man is being charged with failure to use safety belts as a passenger in a vehicle and resisting arrest. Both are misdemeanors.
