Deputies with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office said they have located a vehicle connected to a body found Monday evening near the intersection of Primrose Circle and Todd Road, just north of Greenville.

The Ford F150 belonged to the victim and was concealed in some underbrush, said Col. Byron Hadley, Meriwether County Sheriff’s chief deputy.

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Air Unit assisted in a search that located the vehicle, Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith said in a written statement.

“Air 1, with one of our investigators on board, was able to locate the vehicle … (and) direct ground units into the location where we were able to recover the vehicle,” Smith said. “We have transported the vehicle to our agency for further processing by the GBI Crime Scene Unit. Our investigation has led us to a probable identity on our victim, however we can not release further (information) until we have confirmation from the GBI Crime Lab and proper family notification.”

A homeowner in the vicinity of Primrose Circle and Todd Road told sheriff’s investigators he was checking his property Monday when he discovered a partially decomposed body in a wooded area.

Meriwether County deputies called in the GBI to assist in processing the scene. Detectives said the body was a white male. The cause of death has yet to be determined, but investigators are treating it as a homicide.
