LaGRANGE – Three people were taken to an emergency room following a car wreck around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Jakevius Brownlee, 19, told the Georgia State Patrol that he was driving a friend’s red Chevrolet Camaro near the 200 block of Hood Road when the accelerator became stuck, according to a state trooper.

According to a trooper on scene, the car had moderate “disabling damage” and the passengers were transported to the hospital, but none had critical injuries.

Two of Brownlee’s passengers jumped out of the vehicle before it continued and ran over a mail box, destroying it.

The vehicle traveled about a mile down Hood Road before it ran through a fence and headed for a treeline adjacent to a pasture. After running through the fence, the car struck a pine tree, which brought it to a stop.

At the scene were the Camaro came to a stop, the smell of burnt brakes was heavy in the air. A Callaway High School parking permit hung on the rear-view mirror.

One neighbor said he was lying in bed when he heard sirens. He went outside to see what was happening and noticed his mailbox had been struck and mail scattered across his lawn.

No charges had been filed as of press time today.
