LaGRANGE — Member organizations of the West Georgia Veterans Council will host their annual ceremony recognizing Veterans Day on Wednesday outside the Troup County Government Center.

The event is set for 11 a.m. at the Troup County Veterans Memorial, which sits outside the government center on Ridley Avenue between the Troup County Juvenile Court building and parking deck. The ceremony is expected to last 30 to 45 minutes and will include a welcome, presentation of the colors, group singing, reading of the names of known area veterans who have passed away during the past year and a brief message from retired Superior Court Judge Allen Keeble.

Members of the council then will lay a wreath and pray in honor of fallen soldiers.

The group also will announce its Veteran of the Year recipient.

The member organizations of the West Georgia Veterans Council include the American Legion Post 75, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4629, Military Officers Association of America’s Lafayette Chapter and the Pfc. George Eiland Detachment 1040 of the Marine Corps League.

Also Wednesday, other veterans events on tap include:

• The Troup County Board of Realtors hosts a free breakfast for veterans beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce building on Bull Street.

• The LaGrange Elks Lodge hosts a free luncheon 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lodge, 905 S. Davis Road, which is open to all veterans, active-duty personnel and their families.

• The Yolanda K. Jabaley Clothing Center, 201 Bryon Hurst St., opens free to veterans 12:30–2:30 p.m. Veterans in need should bring their DD214, Military ID or veterans card for screening along with a photo ID. Veteran participants will check in with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4629 and clothing center volunteers, and then can browse a selection of specially donated and collected clothing.

• West Point Elementary School’s Character Chorus and fourth and fifth grade Discovery students host a special Veterans Day celebration at 1 p.m. It is open to all veterans in the community. Local firefighters, police officers and city council members also have been invited.
