A small plane became stuck in thick mud and grass at the LaGrange-Callaway Airport on Sunday around 9:15 p.m. after going off the end of the runway.

LaGrange Police said the plane missed the taxiway while preparing to leave.

The pilot told officers he was following the blue runway lights because his forward-facing white lighting was still activating before he realized it the plane was in the grass.

Police said the ground was so soft, the aircraft could not recover on its own power.

No one aboard the plane was hurt.

Hit and Run

LaGrange Police are searching for the driver of a 1999 gold Mercedes Benz who crashed into a power pole in the 800 block of Colquitt Street just after 6 p.m. Sunday.

The responding officer said eyewitnesses told him the vehicle wrecked and the driver immediately jumped out of the car and fled the scene.

Another eyewitness told police the driver got into a vehicle that was following behind him.

According to the report, skid marks show where the car failed to maintain its lane before striking the pole.

The utility pole was damaged in the crash and will have to be replaced by city utility workers, the report stated.

Burglary

A woman called police Sunday night around 8:15 after finding her home in the 100 block of Wright Street ransacked and items were missing from inside.

The homeowner told police the only item taken was a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

According to the police report, the residence was ransacked with two televisions and furniture were turned over.

Officers said the refrigerator and freezer were open and food in the freezer had thawed.

The homeowner also told officers she’d recently kicked out her roommate and that person reportedly told her she was going to “have someone do something to her.”

She then admitted to police the tablet belonged to her roommate.

According to the report, the amount of damage done to the home exceeded $500.

Police are investigating.
