LaGRANGE — Mayor Jim Thornton will kick off the first in a series of four town hall meetings Thursday.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church, 705 Colquitt St., and residents are invited to bring comments and questions, the mayor said in a press release.

This is the second set of listening sessions the mayor has held since taking office, and he invites the public to come to the meetings and share their thoughts on the state of the city and suggest improvements.

“The purpose of these meetings is to hear from residents on issues of concern, to update residents on projects and priorities for the city and to gather citizen input and suggestions for those priorities,” he said in a statement.

City council members and city staff also are expected to attend.

The three other meetings are also scheduled for:

• Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. at Hollis Hand Elementary School, 641 Country Club Road.

• Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Troup County Baptist Association building, 1301 Washington St.

• Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at Dunson United Methodist Church, 11 N. Barnard Ave.

The mayor said the last set of town hall meetings he held provided “good feedback to the city.”

“The city council members and I know that we don’t have all the answers,” Thornton said. “We encourage residents to make suggestions to us. Just like that year, when good ideas are offered, we work hard to implement them.”

Thornton added that he hopes to receive additional suggestions that can be implemented in the coming year.
