Nineteen students and their advisor traveled to Columbus State University to compete at a regional tournament. LaGRANGE — Last month, 19 THINC College and Career Academy DECA students traveled to Columbus State University to participate in the DECA Regional Competition. Seven walked away with placements in several categories.

According to deca.org, the organization prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

To compete, students took a 100-question test in a specific marketing category such as principals of marketing, marketing management, and principals of business management and administration. They also were required to complete a scenario-based role play judged by a content industry leader. They were judged on appearance, knowledge base, responses to questions and expertise in content area.

Overall, THINC DECA brought home fourth place out of nine teams and 142 participants. The below winners will now advance to the state level of competition in Atlanta.

Fourth place winners:

Third place winners:

Dillion Liechty, restaurant and food service management.

Haley Noles, human resources management.

Winston Turner, marketing management.

Second place winners:

Hanna Asbell, principles of marketing.

First place winner:

Leah Jackson, principles of business management and administration.

THINC DECA will also have other students starting their competition at the State Career Development Conference on March 3–5 in Atlanta with the opportunity to advance to the international competition in Nashville.
