LaGRANGE — The LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce will join the Harris County Chamber of Commerce for a quarterly meeting on July 30.

The meeting will feature John Cushnie, senior vice president of marketing strategies and economic development for the Georgia Chamber, as the keynote speaker. A representative from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce also is expected to address attendees.

“The Georgia chamber will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year,” said Jayson Johnson, president of the Harris County chamber. “This is a great opportunity to bring them to our region to celebrate 100 years of serving businesses in our state.”

The two chambers will meet at Oakhurst Farm in West Point. Johnson said the event will feature presentations that will inform chamber members of how the Georgia chamber plays a role in their state’s businesses.

“They have a great presentation prepared about the history of the state chamber, as well as what kind of issues they’re facing at this time and what they anticipate to do about those issues,” said Johnson. “The meeting should be very beneficial to members of both chambers.”

Johnson recently met with Page Estes, president of the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber, and discussed the benefits of both chambers holding a joint meeting.

“We decided that there would be a lot of good that could come from holding a joint meeting,” said Johnson. “A lot of people in our workforce live in other counties, and they also come to other places to shop and do business, so we thought it could help everyone by getting our chambers together.”

Estes also cited recognizing good things that businesses in surrounding counties and cities have to offer for chamber members.

“Regionalism is very important to the chambers in our region,” said Estes. “We are excited to partner with the Harris chamber for this great event.”

The meeting is open to all members of both chambers, as well as local residents who are curious to learn what their chambers do at a local, state and national level. Officials said that space is limited for the event and those who wish to attend must call either chamber for reservations to attend. The cost for chamber members and residents to attend is $35 per person.
