LaGRANGE — Kaye Lanning Minchew, executive director of the Troup County Archives and Legacy Museum on Main, was recently appointed to the National Historic Publications and Records Commission as a representative of the National Association of Government Archivists and Records Administrators.

NHPRC is a statutory body affiliated with the National Archives and Records Administration and supports activities to preserve, publish and encourage the use of documentary sources relating to the history of the United States. The commission was established by Congress in 1934 and is a 15-member body chaired by the archivist of the United States.

The members represent the three branches of the federal government and professional associations of archivists, historians, documentary editors and records administrators. Each year, the NHPRC awards $5 to $10 million in grants for records projects.

Minchew has served as director of the Troup County Archives since 1985. She is a certified archivist and has served on the board of directors of NAGARA and the Academy of Certified Archivists. She has been appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal as a member of the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council and is a past-president of the Society of Georgia Archivists.
