According to the victim, the unidentified male suspect approached him while walking on Ridge Street.

The victim told police the man then produced a handgun, hit him in the face and head and took his wallet, which contained an undisclosed amount of money.

Investigators said the victim was taken to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center for minor injuries.

LaGrange police describe the alleged suspect as an African-American male, 18 to 20 years old, about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds.

TCSO arrests alleged car thief

Patrol deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man Thursday after being asked to look out for a stolen 2015 Chevrolet Camaro from Atlanta.

Deputies spotted the vehicle in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85 and stopped it near mile marker 12, said investigators.

The driver of the Camaro was identified as Allen Jerel McCampbell, 33, of Selma, Alabama.

Investigators determined the car was stolen a few days earlier in the Atlanta area.

TCSO officials said McCampbell gave investigators no reasonable explanation as to why he had the car.

McCampbell was arrested and charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property.

TCSO investigators are working with detectives with the Atlanta Police Department on this incident.
