A man said his ex-girlfriend snatched his wallet after showing up at his apartment in the 100 block of Wynnwood Drive about 11 p.m. Sunday.

The victim said the ex knocked on his door and told him she just wanted to come by and say hello. She then asked for a glass of water.

The man gave her water and tried to close the door, but said she put her foot in the way to block it. She asked to retrieve a photo that was in his wallet, and when he took it out to find the picture, she grabbed the wallet and ran, according to police.

The man told police he chased the woman down the street, but she escaped. There was no cash in the wallet and he canceled his bank card, he told officers.

The man later decided not to seek charges against the woman and police ended the investigation.

Man allegedly flees officer, drops gun

A man accused of running from an officer faces charges of misdemeanor obstruction and carrying a concealed weapon after he fell and allegedly dropped a gun during the chase Saturday.

The officer said he stopped to talk to the the man on Whitesville Road and Webster Street while checking on an another incident. He went to his patrol car to check the man’s information, and when he got out, the man ran. The officer chased him across Whitesville Road to Lashley Street, where the man tripped on a chain set up to stop traffic.

As the officer put him in handcuffs, other officers noticed a 9mm pistol on the ground behind him that the suspect allegedly dropped. The suspect told the officer he ran because he had warrants for his arrest in Dekalb County.

He was taken to the Troup County Jail.

Thefts, burglaries

• Thieves cut a gate lock to enter property of Foster Plumbing at 105 Wiley Road and stole a flatbed trailer valued at $4,000, Bobcat mini excavator valued at $20,000 and tools and chains valued at $2,000 overnight Friday.

• Two men stole a chainsaw of undisclosed value from Walmart on New Franklin Road on Saturday afternoon. Staff said cameras show one man take the chainsaw and the other act as a “look out” as the first man runs out of the garden center door toward Mooty Bridge Road. Police later identified two suspects and issued warrants for misdemeanor shoplifting.

• Walmart officials reported Friday morning that overnight surveillance footage shows a man and woman take two Hewlett-Packard desktop computers, valued at $549 each, and walk out of the store with them. Police were attempting to identify suspects.

• A thief entered an unlocked 1995 Mazda 626 parked outside Fried Green Tomato Buffet at 127 Commerce Ave. and stole a white LG HBS730 Bluetooth headset valued at $135, a white and pink Nano Vape valued at $180 and two packs of Newport cigarettes valued at $10 from the vehicle.

• Siblings reported their brother took their mother’s debit card while she was in the hospital and used it to fraudulently withdraw $120 on April 11. Police were investigating.

• A resident of the 500 block of Alford Street said he returned home Friday afternoon and found his previously locked apartment unlocked and a TV, clothes and brother’s .22-caliber Mossberg rifle had been taken. He was unsure of the value or brand of the TV and clothes.

• A woman said someone took $560 from under her mattress in her home in the 500 block of McCall Street on Friday night.

• A man who now resides in Florence Hand Nursing Home on Friday accused a person staying in his LaGrange house of forging three checks for a total $600 over an undisclosed time frame. Police were investigating.
