Two people were arrested after Meriwether County sheriff’s deputies and the Upson County Multi-Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Force discovered six dogs in poor health and evidence of a dog fighting pit while serving a search warrant on a home in the 300 block of Chew Road in Manchester.

Tavoris Reshawn Reeves, 24, and a second person were taken into custody on Thursday and taken to the Meriwether County Jail.

Deputies found the presence of marijuana, a firearm and ammunition, along with six dogs in poor living conditions, said Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith. The animals also had wounds and scars consistent with dog fighting, he said.

Investigators later located evidence of a dog fighting pit on unoccupied land directly across the road from the residence, the sheriff said. The Meriwether County Animal Control took possession of the animals.

Reeves was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, misdemeanor marijuana possession and cruelty to animals. He was denied bond due to a probation violation.

The other suspect was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and misdemeanor cruelty to animals.
