A Hogansville man was arrested after he placed items on Facebook he allegedly stole from a home in northern Troup County.

Jonathan Lee Phillips, 24, was taken into custody on Monday in the town of Woodbury, stated investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

Phillips allegedly burglarized the home on Saturday. A short time later, the man advertised some of the stolen property as being for sale on a Facebook page, investigators said.

According to sheriff’s officials, investigators were able to recover most of the items taken from the home.

Phillips was charged with first-degree burglary. He remained behind bars Wednesday afternoon awaiting a bond hearing.

Thefts

The manager told LaGrange police he noticed items were out of place and reviewed the building’s surveillance videos. One of the videos showed an employee appear to take the laptop, hide it under his shirt and get into a waiting SUV, according to the police report.

An arrest warrant for theft was issued for the employee.

The victim told police when she contacted the customer service line, the representative revealed the address on those three money orders had been changed.

Two more tenants also reported their money orders totalling $1,460 were also taken from the rent drop box on Aug. 5.

Police are investigating.
