LaGrange Police Department officers took no chances with a man who said he would hurt himself or any police officers who came near him outside a residence in the 100 block of Auburn Avenue.

When police responded to the home around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, they found the man armed with two knives outside his home. Officers made a perimeter around the area.

According to the report, during the incident, the man went inside the home, put on a Carhartt jump suit, went behind his residence and got into a into a neighbor’s tree, where he barricaded himself with a knife in each hand.

LPD’s trained hostage negotiator attempted to talk the man out of his position.

Officers eventually used “reasonable force” to subdue him, states the police report of the incident.

Officers said the man was taken into custody without injury and transported to West Georgia Medical Center for a mental evaluation.

Pregnant woman thrown to ground

A pregnant woman was recovering after a family fight turned physical Sunday night at a home in the 1200 block of East 7th Street in West Point.

The woman told officers her 15-year-old brother tried to hit her with a vacuum cleaner, so she pushed him away.

According to the victim, that is when her mother tried to intervene and grabbed her by the hair, pushing her towards the front door. The woman said two other people also tried to break up the fight and the mother pushed through them, then threw her to the floor.

West Point police stated the mother was arrested and charged with battery under the Family Violence Act.

Burglary

A woman left to grab dinner Monday evening, only to return home and discover her house in the 1000 block of Houston Street had been burglarized.

The victim told an LPD officer she left her residence around 8 p.m. When she returned an hour and a half later she noticed her 60-inch Sanyo TV was missing from the stand in her living room.

Also gone were a children’s arcade game and a pair of children’s Air Jordan tennis shoes from a bedroom, stated the victim.

The officer noticed the back door to the residence appeared to have been kicked in.
